After the terrorist attacks on 11th September 2001 "7 World Trade Center" was the first large project of the ambitious re-building at Ground Zero. After nearly 4 years of construction the 228 m high, 52 Storey building was completed in the spring of 2006.
The technical safety requirements were enormous. WTC7 is currently the safest skyscraper in the USA. For the glass solution of the entrance area, ECKELT was chosen to manufacture the safety screen with an explosion resistant “BOMB BLAST” glazing. The patented application allows an open, transparent facade whilst still fulfilling the highest security specifications. The glass interacts aesthetically with the filigree support structure from Josef Gartner to accommodate the explosion-resistant functionality.
